Compounding the farce of an FSA totally infiltrated by jihadis, and in the case of many gangs/brigades, actually dominating the whole thing, Western corporate media is taking no prisoners selling the notion that the CIA is on the ground just performing the innocent job of separating the FSA wheat from the jihadi chaff, arbitrating who gets suitcases full of US dollars. 

Believers take note; Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) are now on sale on Ebay. 

Apparently no one told US Secretary of State Hillary “We came, we saw, he died” Clinton about this jihadi monkey business. [4] 

She is adamant she will have none of this “disciplined, religious fervor, experience from Iraq” al-Qaeda eulogies. “Libya needs to provide information to the International Criminal Court (ICC) about the conditions faced by Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in prison, the court said Thursday, DPA reported.

The ICC has given Libya until September 7 to provide information about the son of executed former Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi. The younger Gaddafi stands accused before the international body for crimes against humanity stemming from violence related to the country’s 2011 uprising against the elder Gaddafi.

ICC judges noted that Gaddafi has been held by Libyan authorities for nine months. The court also noted that Libya needs to clarify whether Gaddafi has a defence attorney.

Lawyers representing Gaddafi at the ICC said he has been cut off from the outside world. He is said to fear a show trial in Libya and has expressed a preference for being tried before the international body.

“I’m not afraid to die, but if they execute me after a show trial, then that is like murder,” the lawyers quoted Gaddafi as saying.

The court also issued an arrest warrant for former Libyan intelligence chief Abdullah al-Senussi. Libya has refused to release either man to the ICC and had declared that it plans to try them in Libyan courts.

The ICC and Libyan authorities have already clashed over the Gaddafi case this year after a team of ICC lawyers was detained in Libya in June after allegedly trying to pass information to Gaddafi during a visit.”

Two weeks ago, the results of Libya’s first election in four decades were announced in what marks an important achievement for a country still struggling to break free from its authoritarian past.

(…) And, fearing the ramifications of the Arab Spring, Colombian soldiers are apparently being recruited to act as mercenaries to suppress any potential uprising. 

This is why the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, or EITI, is so important. Composed of a range of actors including governments, civil society groups, corporations, investors and international organizations, EITI sets global standards that allow citizens to easily access information about the revenue their state brings in from the sale of natural resources, including oil. For their part, and because a favourable business climate depends on openness and accountability, oil companies — and here, Suncor has a role to play — can also participate by revealing the sums they have provided to the state in return for the ability to gain access to oilfields.

EITI asked Libya to join in December but the National Transitional Council failed to act. Still, there is clear interest in what EITI has to offer. In May, EITI officials met with Libyan civil society groups and discussed how to best cultivate a relationship. That same month, protesters marched on the headquarters of the state oil company and demanded to know how oil profits are being spent.

The national assembly and the government it chooses will now have an opportunity to address these calls for accountability. Will it act boldly and seek to protect against the potential abuse of oil revenues and all the dangers that come with it? Or, will it keep with the status quo? The answer holds the key to determining not only the nature of Libya’s political future but whether the fight against Gadhafi was worth it in the first place.”

“TRIPOLI — Armed assailants laid siege on Sunday to a residence of Red Cross staff in the western Libyan city of Misrata, causing major damage to the building, the organisation said.

Seven staff were in the residence when the “unknown individuals” attacked the building with “various kinds of heavy weaponry” at dawn, said a statement from the International Committee of the Red Cross, adding that they were unharmed.

The ICRC strongly condemned the attack and said it would suspend its work in Misrata and Benghazi in the east following what it called the fifth such incident in the two cities in less than three months.

“We are appalled by this latest act and by the deliberate targeting of our staff: they have put their lives at risk to serve the Libyan people both during and after the conflict,” said Ishfaq Muhamed Khan, ICRC delegation head in Libya.

The Geneva-based organisation said that it has become extremely concerned about the “wave of attacks against humanitarian workers and the deterioration of the security situation in Libya.”

“Given the circumstances, we are forced to announce, with considerable regret, that we will be suspending all our activities in Misrata and Benghazi and that our delegates in those cities will be temporarily relocated,” said Khan.

“This most recent attack could have had very grave consequences for our colleagues,” he added. “

On 27 June 2011, PTC I issued a warrant of arrest for Gaddafi for alleged crimes against humanity (murder and persecution) committed in Libya from 15 February until at least 28 February 2011. Arrest warrants were also issued for Libyan leader Muammar Mohammed Abu Minyar Gaddafi and Abdullah Al-Senussi, director of military intelligence. (… )
